Fireworks (February 2nd to 19th, 2012) Written by Gordon Portman When it was first produced at the Blyth Festival in 1996, a reviewer commented that “if you’ve ever been a mother or a grandmother – or better yet, if you’ve had them – this is a show that is certain to move you.” Winner of a variety of awards, Fireworks is the story of how three very different men – father, son, and grandson – struggle to cope after the death of the woman they all loved … the wife, mother and grandmother who helped them see the best in themselves, and who, after her death, helps them see the best in each other. Suitable for all ages. Each main production in our season presents 12 performances for three weekends, except for the Christmas Show and Four Play which are only for one weekend. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.Note that there will be an extra matinee for the Christmas Show at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011.

When Charles Dickens wrote Great Expectations in 1860, it dealt with a world where owning property defined one’s success. But how has that changed in 150 years? Richard Ouzounian’s special musical adaptation of this work deals with how the times we live in have changed and that the way we measure triumph has transformed as well. Adapted from the Novel By Charles Dickens & Directed By: Richard Ouzounian

Four Play: A Showcase of Play Readings (May 31st to June 3rd, 2012) Every day a different play! For four consecutive days in June, the South Simcoe Theatre presents a lightly rehearsed "reading" of a different full length play or of several shorter plays. The actors sit in chairs and "read" the script to us, the audience, much like one might see or hear at the first day of rehearsal. Now in its 5th year, the Four Play format offers a broad selection of play material: some old, some new, some rare, some challenging. It is a showcase of play readings intended to offer new and unique opportunities to our members and audience alike. Not only are we looking to attract new writers, but to attract first-time or entry-level actors, directors and producers. If you have either read a play (preferably low or non-royalty) or written a play that you think might be appropriate for this event, please send submissions to the South Simcoe Theatre, 1 Hamilton Street, Cookstown, Ontario L0L 1L0, c/o Christina Luck, or call the theatre office (705) 458-4432 and leave a message. Each main production in our season presents 12 performances for three weekends, except for the Christmas Show and Four Play which are only for one weekend. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Note that there will be an extra matinee for the Christmas Show at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011.
